Shruti
Shruti Boxes are drone instruments from the Indian Subcontinent, often used to accompany other instruments and voice. Similar to a harmonium, shruti boxes have bellows that when squeezed pump air through reeds, creating a drone sound. The pitch is adjusted by opening holes that correspond to the tuned reeds creating a full octave.
Ours are handcrafted by Monoj Kumar Sardar, one of the prominent instrument makers in India. Tuned to 432 Hz in order to harmonise with other instruments. It is a great all-purpose box with a balanced, warm, full sound and attractive solid wood design.
